The Goldenberry Project

AgroAndino’s Physalis and its production facilities are located in the province San Pablo, in Cajamarca Region (farthest Northern highland of Peru). Working in partnership with the local and regional governments, AgroAndino is promoting the production and transformation of ecologically-grown Physalis to dried fruit for the export market.

After completion of a feasibility study in 2004, small farmers from the San Pablo Province were organized into their Producers’ Association.

The Project “Production and Marketing of Physalis” is being sponsored by the Municipality of Madrid (Ayuntamiento Madrid, Spain) and is being implemented since May 2007. Crops are developed under high environmental and technical standards.

AgroAndino has established a strategic alliance with the San Pablo Producers’ Association to provide the latter technical assistance since the sowing all the way through until the postharvest. In each step of the process quality control is performed to assure the output of a high-quality dehydrated Physalis.

AgroAndino pays the farmers a price above the market average under fair trade standards, to promote an effective socio-economic development in the production location, and performs its operations under corporate social responsibility standards to promote there education and health.
